清同治年间，逍遥楼是个达官贵人寻欢作乐的地方，兖州总兵白宠（王洪涛 饰）整日泡在里面，乐不思蜀。云里飞单彪（王赤 饰）夜遁索白宠之命，不料被楼内机关击中，幸而被壮士沈龙（黄国强 饰）搭救。女儿单娥（杨凤一 饰）追问单彪为何被官兵追杀，单彪向她吐露实情。原来单娥是兖州知府文渊（刘占加 饰）之女。18年前白宠杀了文渊全家，盗走御赐金镂万花瓶。单娥闻言，不顾养父劝告，只身夜闯逍遥楼，她要报杀父之仇，不成想被沾毒的刀划伤胸部，危机时刻，沈龙又出现了，他将单娥带到郎中家排毒治伤，单娥跪谢壮士。最终，再闯逍遥楼的单娥被白宠生擒并迷奸，白宠告诉单娥，单彪才是杀她父亲的真正凶手......。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
